05 / Skincare Dermatological skincare allows consumers to trust brands in providing targeted solutions that not only address their concerns, but also educate on skinsupporting ingredients and ways to adapt their routine according to their skin type. Familiarity with skincare terms such as ‘skin barrier’ has led to the popularity of soothing skincare formulations, such as the Cicaplast Balm B5 from La Roche-Posay. Expanding into 2024, consumers will continue to seek brands backed by medical professionals and follow skincare trends - like the 2023 ‘ skin cycling’ trend - on educational platforms. 06 / Trends Report 2024 Peptide Power And it doesn’t stop there. Hair peptides are a catalyst for healing and hydrating stressed-out strands, as well as protecting against toxins. Nourishing ingredients adapted from the skincare formulas we know and love are set to drive innovation in the haircare realm this year - including hyaluronic acid, biotin, ceramides and niacinamide - while peptides are on the pedestal as the ones to watch. We’re all searching for fuller, healthier hair in 2024, with new and improved formulas that work to upgrade our routines and deliver the locks of dreams. Hair peptides are paving the way for happier hair as the ‘skinification’ of hair health continues to take influence from the skincare market. Known for improving scalp health and supporting hair growth, peptides encourage blood flow to the scalp, increasing the size of hair follicles and giving hair room to thicken. Haircare Make your mane your crowning glory with the strand-saving trends that are set to make the cut in 2024. Last year, we saw makeup lovers across the globe seeking glass-like complexions through the power of strobe creams and liquid highlighters. Now, the desire for mirror-like shine is transitioning into haircare, fueled by the ‘Bella Hadid red carpet effect’. The result? A glossy, ‘looks like glass’ mane. Hair oils, smoothing serums and spray formulations that create a high-shine finish are set to reign supreme. An iteration of the clean girl aesthetic, glass hair is deemed to be the low maintenance style that yields glamorous results. Ideal for mid to long-length hair, the glass look can be achieved by blow-drying locks from soaking wet and sealing poker straight using shine-enhancing products. Glass Hair We have some incredibly exciting haircare initiatives for 2024, including key focuses on driving product innovation and building brand awareness through best-in-class launches. Our ambition is also to be at the forefront of the biggest trends in haircare, whether that be product or ingredientled, as we acknowledge consumers are increasingly more interested in understanding what’s inside the products they’re using. Product trends to watch out for in 2024 will most definitely be Glossy Hair and Damage Repair. Through engaging content produced by our in-house beauty team, we’ll be educating consumers on how to build multi-step routines, whilst tapping into the trends to covet. 07 / Haircare Typically associated with the savoury seasoning of the culinary world, rosemary is making its way out of the kitchen and into our beauty cupboards. As consumer interest for hair growth and scalp health spikes, rosemary oil is set to be the key ingredient to care for stressed-out strands. This invigorating ingredient is enriched with properties that work to stimulate and nourish the scalp, in turn supporting hair growth to encourage a fuller-looking mane. For those struggling with post-partum hair loss or thinning, apply rosemary oil to your scalp before washing or treat your tresses to a rosemaryinfused scalp massage as a great way to promote healthier hair from the root. Similarly, rosemary oil is a natural antioxidant that can also be used to support your complexion, working to hydrate and protect your skin from environmental aggressors, as well as target fine lines and blemishes for a smooth and more radiant complexion. In its purest form, this ingredient can be potent, so we recommend diluting or using smaller quantities to really get the most from your regime. Ingredient Focus: Rosemary INGREDIENTS Biotin & Collagen Hair Growth Supplements Vitamins and supplements that blend herbal ingredients with cutting-edge technologies are set to dominate the haircare market, reflecting growing demand for strand-saving solutions in the pursuit of luscious locks. Through 2023, we saw supplements that support gut health peak. Now, these wellness products are steering into the haircare realm, with ingestible remedies working to support our tresses from the inside-out. Hair growth supplements take centre stage with advanced formulas and ingredients – such as biotin, collagen and natural herbs – boosting hair thickness and preventing hair thinning or loss. Supplements are fast becoming a natural extension of beauty routines with *92% of beauty consumers believing an inside-out approach is the best way to attain beauty goals; and with a 90% increase in searches for ‘ vitamins for hair growth and thickness’, hair health is a bigger priority than ever. What’s next for beauty supplements? Fun flavours and formats - like gummies - designed to replicate sweet treats are at the forefront, helping to switch the narrative around taking daily vitamins and appealing to a wider demographic. 08 / Trends Report 2024 A Hint of Tint Ecurnite et cons ocae tuus, esse dem adducem nerenti listrum, es Ad inte mortem noridinguli silicati, atili silinihi, senihilis la nihi, nonimis haetrus facivis, que nos estrac resedius audet? A sea of orange, peach and apricot will dominate the beautysphere, as this sunset shade has been labeled the 2024 Pantone Of The Year. Sparking connotations of positivity, rejuvenation and warmth, beauty lovers can prepare to experiment with peachy tones through delicate makeup formulations - like blush or lip tints - to evoke that feel-good factor. We also predict this pantone will take over the copper hair trend of 2023, as tresses ignite a peach crush inspired by the A/W 23/24 catwalks. The Skinification of Lip Colour Lipsticks, balms, glosses and stains are the latest formulations to succumb to the multi-benefit beauty trend. Undergoing a make-under in the early stages of the pandemic, with many consumers swapping highcoverage matte lipsticks for sheer, barely-there tints, the lip category shifts further into the skincare space in 2024, with a rise in ingredient-packed, multi-purpose formulas that offer both colour and care in one. From hyaluronic acid-infused lipsticks to peptide-powered balms, these makeup-skincare hybrids lace lips with the same benefits we see from our most loved skincare products. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid work to keep lips nourished and hydrated, while going that extra mile to deliver high colour payoff. We can expect to see more brands continue to reinvent the wheel in lipcare with overnight formulas rich in skin-loving ingredients designed to treat lips as you sleep. Look out for Lip Sleep Masks as the one to watch this year. Skincare To Go Pantone of the Year Peach Fuzz Cosmetics Stay ahead of the hype with the makeup trends to know about, including high-performance colour cosmetics, skincare-makeup hybrids and more. Tinted beauty products are on the rise, redefining the cosmetics industry with innovative blends of skincare and makeup, or multipurpose formulas suitable for lips, cheeks and eyes. Searches on LOOKFANTASTIC containing the word ‘ tint’ increased by 81% in the past year with Tinted SPF, Tinted Moisturiser, Lip Tint and Brow Tint the most popular product types. A worthy contender for the ‘no-makeup’ makeup trend, tinted formulas are designed to add a hint of colour with a natural-looking finish. Often in lightweight formats - like creams or balms - or made from water-based ingredients to encourage even coverage and luminosity, more consumers are swapping full-coverage foundations and lipsticks for their lightweight counterparts, like CC creams, tinted serums and lip tints. These time-saving formulas also offer long-lasting benefits, thanks to the infusion of hydrating and nourishing ingredients that help to combat common skin concerns like dryness, ageing or blemishes – while some tinted formulas are designed with specific goals in mind, such as redness correction or oil control. Following the revival of the Y2K aesthetic, aquamarine makeup will be the latest colour cosmetic trend making waves in 2024. With Pinterest search demand for ‘ blue eyeshadow aesthetic’ and ‘ aqua makeup look’ up +65% and +100% respectively in 2023 vs 2022, this year marks a surge in pigment-packed palettes and graphic liners that span the colour chart: from tantalising turquoise and electric cobalt to mystic and retro blues. More than just a pop of colour, beauty consumers will experiment with blue hues as a marker of self-expression and mood. The trend nods to 1990’s nostalgia through frosted shimmer eyeshadows and flecks of glitter, reflecting the emotion of joy and exploring the appeal of reinventing makeup looks from our youth. Brands will dive into the blue by reformulating bestsellers in this vibrant colourway, while the forward-thinkers are set to break the mould with unexpected formats and playful packaging designed to delight. As ever, we’re expecting makeup trends in 2024 to keep us on our toes! We’re already seeing the Pantone Colour of the Year ‘Peach Fuzz’ make its way into blush, lips and accessories too. The fresh-faced complexions we’ve seen through the 2023 ‘clean girl’ aesthetic will continue, further enhanced by the ‘skinification’ of cosmetics as the line between makeup and skincare continues to fade. Lip glosses and oils infused with squalane and serum foundations enriched with niacinamide amongst other skin-gredient led products will take top spot in our makeup bags this year. Following the launch of the LOOKFANTASTIC Foundation Finder (using our in-house patented technology), we’re expecting to see continued growth in cosmetics by removing barriers to shade-matching online, and through some super exciting newness from our brand partners. 09 / Cosmetics In with the Blue Pinterest searches for blue eyeshadow aesthetic +65%. 10 / Trends Report 2024 Investing in our skin is extending to our bodies in 2024, where we’ll see more consumers choose bodycare enriched with premium ingredients that target specific concerns and skin types, dubbed the ‘body facial’. Just as retinol helps to minimise the appearance of fine lines on your face, a new generation of treatments and products will emerge to deliver the same results for the skin on our bodies. Mimicking the likes of the ‘clean girl’ and ‘cloud’ makeup trends, a more natural aesthetic will continue to evolve for the body image in 2024. The narrative of tweakments and surgical enhancements will see a shift, as more beauty brands develop products that promise to achieve the same goals via skin-loving formulas, including lotions that lift and serums that work to sculpt the tummy, thighs and arms. Offering both sustainability and convenience, the multi-benefit beauty trend is set to soar in 2024. In light of the current economic climate, beauty lovers are shopping smarter by taking a cost-conscious approach with products that will help them do more with less – without scrimping on quality. These hybrid heroes are being marketed as dual or multipurpose, spanning cross-category with innovative formulas that bridge the gap between luxury and high-performance. Tapping into time-poor lifestyles, products that can be used across hair, skin and body aid efficiency in our routines. Packed full of revitalising properties, multifunctional formulas work to encourage healthy skin and hair from top to toe, with luxury brand houses like Hermès adopting the trend through bath and shower products that treat tresses whilst cleansing skin. The Multi-Taskers Expansion of our bodycare category will focus on two key priorities: supplements (aka. ‘beauty inside out’) and the ‘skinification’ of bodycare. Supplements has been an area that has seen year on year growth on LOOKFANTASTIC, equally gaining traction amongst celebrities with the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Vital Protein, and Chris Appleton and Revive Collagen. We are really expanding our offering in this space with some exciting supplements brands launching on LOOKFANTASTIC in the new year. This, coupled with a 360-wellness campaign means that we can really educate our consumers about how the right supplements can support your health and beauty goals. The second area we are seeing increased demand for is the ‘skinification’ of bodycare; you don’t just have skin on your face, it’s on your body too and we can reap the same benefits we see from applying hyaluronic acid to your face, for example, on your body as well. More brands are bringing out newness in this area and if you haven’t heard of the most-talked-about ‘Bum Bum Cream’ then you need to try it! Lillie Ellis, Buying Director Says... Products that promise to keep signs of ageing at bay and promote a youthful glow are often accompanied with taglines like ‘achieve baby-soft skin’. Now, this narrative is being flipped on its head, as preventative beauty takes on a newer meaning by targeting a much younger audience: babies. This year will see the expansion of the Mother and Baby category with luxury serums, lotions and creams specially designed to care for little ones as young as newborns. The phrase ‘start them young’ is apt, with searches for #babyfacial and #babyfacemassage proving popular on TikTok. After luxury houses like Dior and Hermès launched “eau de senteurs”, a gentle perfumed water formulated to suit children’s sensitive skin, we’re expecting more brands to follow suit with a wider range of premium baby beauty products. As we welcome the generation where beautyobsessed millennials become parents, we’ll see them adapt their pamper routines to suit their offspring, with multi-step skin and body routines becoming second nature. Ingredient-conscious shoppers will treat their little ones to the same high-end products they use on themselves, with a ‘quality over quantity’ mentality. 11 / Bodycare As consumers continue to focus on inside-out beauty, gut health is set to flourish, with products that promise to balance our internal good bacteria with our external microbiome. Google Trends searches for ‘ gut health’ queries has seen a +25% increase YoY. From prebiotic-powered supplements to vitamins enriched with fermented ingredients, the changing narrative towards bacteria sees a direct correlation between gut and skin health. Adaptogens are herbs, roots and other plantlike substances - such as mushrooms – that present many wellness benefits: helping to manage our body’s response to stress, anxiety, fatigue, and boosting our overall wellbeing. The ‘ mushroom boom’ is here to stay with topical treatments like and savvy supplements like helping to maximise our wellness routines from within. Stat 2 ‘Skincare is self-care’ will be the mantra of the year, as this trend amplifies the art of pampering through multi-step routines to deliver a well-earned radiance boost. Bath times will be elevated with skin-softening oils, whipped-to-perfection body soufflés and exfoliating scrubs – and skipping steps is so last year; post-shower bodycare routines will be enriched with moisturising creams and overnight treatments that will leave skin velvety smooth. The Head to Glow trend allows often neglected areas- like the chest, décolletage and feet – to earn some well-deserved TLC, as more brands produce innovative formulas specially targeted to revive, brighten and nourish. Sheeva Fallahi, Head of Campaign & Content We’ve teamed up with Pinterest to predict the trends of tomorrow, today. And with a surge in LOOKFANTASTIC shoppers investing in top to toe beauty routines, the bodycare category will have a major moment in 2024. Functional Fragrances As beauty-obsessed millennials seek ways to introduce their little ones to the world of wellness and self-care, the Mother & Baby category is set to receive a designer upgrade this year. While many skin, body and wellness brands already cater to the mummy demographic through pregnancy and baby-safe formulations, 2024 will see luxury fashion houses enter the space with fragrances specially curated for babies’ skin. More akin to scented water than traditional perfume, these baby fragrances are known as ‘eau de senteurs’, which are free from alcohol or essential oils, and so less likely to cause irritation or discomfort to delicate skin. Designers like BVLGARI have already turned Mother & Baby luxe, with its infant-friendly perfume ‘Petits et Mamans’. More recently, Dior showcased its scented water collection ‘Bonne Étoile’ for babies and children, followed by the re-launch of the Dior Baby luxury skincare range. As baby showers are catching up with birthdays and engagements regarding popularity, could this be the perfect gift for new mums or the baby who has everything? From sensorial scents to nostalgic, gourmand accords, we unfurl the signature fragrance trends that are about to stand out all year long. Fragrance 12 / Trends Report 2024 Last year saw the acceleration of the multipurpose beauty trend, with skincare-meets-makeup product launches at the helm. This year, the macro trend will extend across fragrance, as the current economic climate sparks a shift into the mainstream with scented products that go the extra mile. Popular brands - including those in the luxury realm - are reinventing well-loved fragrances into multifunctional fomats that can be spritzed on both body and hair, providing a more accessible proposition to cost-savvy consumers. The global fascination with food and drink will continue to transition into beauty, as we see more brands attempt to resonate with consumers through innovative and playful approaches to product formulas and packaging. Gourmand fragrances – those scented with edible notes – are being reinvented in 2024, with perfumers aiming to evoke feelings of nostalgia and comfort with every spritz. Brands like Tom Ford and Sol de Janeiro have already tapped into the popularity of ingredients - such as cherry and pistachio - to create fragrant blends that mimic sweet desserts. The cultural obsession with tea will also see this trending ingredient further enter the luxury fragrance realm. Maison Margiela Replica Matcha Meditation Eau de Toilette leads the way with a hearty combination of green tea, matcha and white chocolate accords, creating a scent sensation that’s almost good enough to eat. Discovery Sets With more consumers finding new ways to shop fragrance online, the art of discovery through scent sampling has become ever prevalent in the last year. Perfumers are tapping into this trend through product launches in the form of Discovery Sets, allowing curious consumers to trial multiple fragrance minis housed inside a giftable kit. Helping to bridge the affordable luxury gap, brands like Maison Margiela and Molton Brown have created Discovery Sets that combine aspirational quality with affordable formats, targeting price-savvy shoppers and broadening their scent offering to newer audiences. Typically comprised of the brand’s signatures and new releases, Discovery Sets offer an array of notes to guide the receiver to their chosen scent, whether they’re in the market for a new perfume to call their own or looking to gift someone a sensorial mood-boosting experience. They also provide an explorative opportunity that allows beauty lovers to switch their spritz according to chemical and environmental factors, such as their mood, the occasion or season. 13 / Fragrance Gourmand Fragrances Says...
