DISCOVER MINDFUL MEDITATION Christmas shopping and work commitments aren’t the only reasons we might feel strained. Dr George expands: “Multiple social functions often cause overindulgence, copious alcohol consumption and chronic lack of sleep, leading to physical and mental exhaustion.” Try setting aside some time for a regular moment of mindfulness. “Just five minutes of breathing and meditation per day can be beneficial for mental wellbeing and help build resilience over this stressful period.” PRIORITISE SELF-CARE According to Dr Perkins, putting self-care at the top of your wishlist is the best gift to ask for. “Remember to care for yourself so that you can care for your loved ones. Do something special for you,” she advises. “Enjoy the season by taking time to relax and spend quality time with your friends and family.” IDENTIFY YOUR STRESS TRIGGERS Learning to manage stress levels starts with our hormones. “Cortisol is considered our main stress hormone,” Dr Perkins explains. “High levels of cortisol can lead to acne breakouts, hair loss, increased blood pressure and heart rate, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.” INSIDE OUT
