“The best way to check a product’s lifespan is to look for an open jar or hourglass symbol displayed on its packaging,” says Aruj Javid, group pharmacist. “For example, if you see the symbol 12M, this indicates the number of months you can use the product from when it was first opened. An hourglass symbol indicates that it has 30 months to be used regardless of whether it has been opened or not.” While it’s advised to adhere to a product’s PAO (Period After Opening) guidelines, it’s important to be aware that expiration dates are not definitive and can vary BEAUTY ADVICE W hether you’re a beauty junkie or novice, you’re probably guilty of reaching for an old favourite that you haven’t used in a while without stopping to check its expiration date. Once opened, beauty products deteriorate and become ineffective over time, so it’s important to be mindful of how long to use them for – especially when it comes to your skin, hair and body health.
