“CBD oil [being] used for stress is one of the most common wellbeing uses,” explains Dr Gordon. “Many people find it helpful, especially when using a ‘full spectrum’ product.” Mary concurs: “We know that CBD binds with serotonin receptors (our happy neurotransmitters), and it also helps to support our endocannabinoid system – a homeostatic regulating system which has an overall balancing effect across our mood, sleep, immune system and stress regulation.” Despite being a rising star of the wellness scene, it took some time for CBD to step into the spotlight. “While hemp is abundant in CBD and has been used traditionally for thousands of years in folk medicine, CBD’s lack of any intoxicating effect meant that for many years scientists assumed it was inactive,” explains Mary. “However, when a study in 1980 showed that CBD could reduce seizures, the tide began to turn, and since then studies suggest CBD may have a therapeutic effect on everything from anxiety and addictions to Parkinson’s.” A WELLNESS WONDER CBD IN HISTORY TRENDING INGREDIENT
